Mission
The I am one .awareness movement is made up of adults committed to ensuring that ALL students in our classes, and in our school know that there are adults who care about, will listen, and will fight for their emotional well-being as fiercely as they fight for their academic well-being.
I am ONE adult who will create an environment in my classroom and my school that is built on a foundation of connection, care and compassion.
WHAT ARE PEOPLE SAYING
"I Am One... I may be just one voice, one person but that is a start! By being "just one" who joins many, we work diligently together to help our students know that they are each loved and cared for by at least one person at school.
To some it may not be enough and no it doesn't erase the heartache or struggles many students feel. But who is to say it doesn't help to plant that seed of goodness??? ABOUT THE CREATOR
Malarie is currently an Elementary School Counselor, who works with children, families, teachers and community members to ensure that all children are supported in reaching their social, emotional and academic goals.
Malarie’s desire to support the growth of children started with her experiences as a case worker for families experiencing domestic violence, and then as a case worker, working with families experiencing homelessness. In both of these previous situations, it was part of Malarie’s job to communicate with the school system the issues the families were facing. During this time, a passion for solution focused skills began and the goal to help end the cycle of pain.
That is when she began to pursue her dream of systematically improving the way the children are supported in our schools. Her vision was to support and educate staff to create a compassionate, and whole person focus school environment. Where staff felt cared for and connected, with the goal that the care, compassion, and connection they receive would be passed down to the children they influence. This was first practiced in leading a team of early educators at a local preschool, now evolving into the public school setting.
Malarie’s vision is stemmed from the belief that connection can change the trajectory of a child’s life, in fact anyone's life. With hope, healing and tools a child can develop skills that will help them face all that life hands them. From the minute they step on the school grounds or step onto a bus, each adult should be making an effort to care for, show compassion to, and connect with each and every child in our influence.
I am one comes from a heart that wants to create a future for our children that is better than the present trajectory. Our kids deserve our best. They learn from our example.
